Surprise Squad stops by to delight shoppers at Fry’s in downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — While food inflation is expected to slow later this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture expects consumers to still see rising prices in most categories.

That’s why Simone Cuccurullo of Arizona’s Family and Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad visited Fry’s Food stores on 7th Avenue and Camelback Road in downtown Phoenix to surprise some lucky shoppers with $200 gift cards.

Excited, Simone approached a woman in the produce department to ask how her day was going, then handed her a gift card from Valley Toyota Dealers. After an appreciative high-five and a few smiles, Simone moved on to find another Fry’s customer.

She found her just a few aisles away, where she was buying vegetables to make her own juice. Simone surprised her with a gift card and a hug, then went off to find the next lucky recipient.

That’s when Simone met a shopper who had just moved to the Valley. “Can I get you something today to make your day?” Simone asked as she handed a gift card to a stunned shopper. “Seriously… I can spend it on anything?” the woman asked. “Anything your heart desires,” Simone said.

As Simone continued running to find the next person, she turned to the camera and said, “I feel like Oprah… you get a gift card and you get a gift card.”

As Simone walked down the next aisle, and a short sprint later, she met a woman who explained to her that she is fighting rising grocery prices by buying what she can. “So, I have something for you.” And then Simone gave her a gift card and a high-five.

As she rounded the corner, Simone stopped a woman who had her hands full with some items she was purchasing. “Is there anything I can help you with?” Simone asked as she handed the last gift card of the morning to a very surprised and happy shopper.
