Boston pop-soul/indie-folk act Diving at the lake have just completed the first stage of their “Good Togetherness Tour”, during which the band toured North America all summer. The tour concluded with two nights in Portland, Maine’s coastal town, Thompson’s pointon August 17th and 18th. We were lucky enough to make it to the second night of fun on Sunday after the first night was completely sold out!

The hall was more than half full when the opening act, Celissecame on stage. Despite the gloomy, overcast skies (due to wildfire smoke from our northern neighbors in Canada), the singer/songwriter wowed the crowd with her entertaining and infectious R&B and soul set.

As the sun slowly set, Lake Street Dive showed up and started playing the tour’s namesake and the title song of their latest album. Well togetherThe band often performs in Thompson’s Point in late summer and enjoys a large fan base here, as Portland is only two hours north of Boston and is almost a second home for them. In fact, the singer Rachael Price told the audience that the band looks forward to these Thompson’s Point shows all year. The evening continued with “Hello? Goodbye!“ and newer titles, “Far away” And “Better not tell yourself.”

As always, Price sounded incredible, as did her peers. The production/backline on this tour looked simply stunning in the fading light. It was hard to look away throughout the entire set! The band offered a good mix of old fan favorites and new music, including the infectiously catchy “Hypotheses” And “Side bangs.” Regarding the latter, Price explained that the band had originally planned to stop playing live, but due to the sheer volume of requests, they “eventually overcame that” and resumed performing.

Fans continued dancing all night as the band played the rest of their 22-song set, ending the set with “Dance with a stranger” And “You go down gently“, before a three-song encore, with Celisse coming out again to provide vocal accompaniment and serious guitar playing for a cover of Hall & Oates‘ “Rich girl.”

The evening ended with the mega hit “Good kisser”, with most fans waiting to hear the full set before heading out for the night. You can catch Lake Street Dive this fall on leg two of their tour, which sees them play major markets in the eastern and central U.S.
