The first pictures of Lonely Planet were released.
Lonely Planet is a new Netflix film starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. The romantic film was written and directed by Susannah Grant and will hit the streaming service next October.

When will Lonely Planet be on Netflix?
Lonely Planet will be available on Netflix from October 11, 2024.
“A reclusive novelist arrives at a prestigious writers’ retreat in Morocco, hoping the remote surroundings will help her overcome writer’s block,” the film’s description reads. “There she meets a young man – what begins as an acquaintance develops into an intoxicating, life-changing love affair.”
In addition to Dern and Hemsworth, the film also stars Diana Silvers, Younès Boucif, Adriano Giannini and Rachida Brakni.
“What attracted me to the story was the exploration of identity and self-worth in relationships, especially in a world as intellectually charged as the literary scene,” Dern said of the film on Netflix’s Tudum. “The dynamic between the younger man and the older, established woman writer fascinated me because it’s not just about romance – it’s about finding someone who really sees you and understands you, which is something deeply human and relatable.”
Lonely Planet is Grant’s second feature film to direct, following 2006’s Catch and Release. She was also co-creator and showrunner of Unbelievable, a Netflix film released in 2019 and starring Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever.
Additionally, Grant is credited as the writer of Pocahontas (1995), 28 Days (2000), Erin Brockovich (2000) (for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay), In Her Shoes (2005), Wilbur and Charlotte (2006), The Soloist (2009), and The Fifth Wave (2016).
Grant is producing the new Netflix film along with Liza Chasin and Sarah Timberman. Brendan Ferguson, Corinne Weber and Margaret Chernin serve as executive producers.
