MY.GAMES hands over the publishing of Skyforge to Innova, and yes, that is confusing

It is the end of an era: Skyforge has been active under the banner My.com/MY.GAMES since its launch in 2015, but is now moving to a new location.

“It is time to put this incredible game into the caring hands of Innova,” the company announced today. “Over the course of this year, MY.GAMES will no longer Skyforgeand Innova will be the sole publisher to take this game on exciting journeys into the future.” No date for the transition was given other than “2024”; the developers promise that more information will be coming soon.

“We want this transition to be as smooth as possible for our players. We have full confidence in the team at Innova and are sure that they will provide the best possible service. From our side, we will provide them with all the support necessary to ensure that all processes, from development to player support, maintain the level of quality set by MY.GAMES. The transfer process will take some time and will consist of several phases. We will keep you updated on the progress every step of the way and do our best to ensure a smooth transfer. You can rest assured that your data and progress are safe and that you will be able to continue playing exactly where you left off once the publisher change is complete.”

Confusingly, the new operator is listed only as “Innova,” an abbreviation for companies that have appeared multiple times in our coverage. Innova Games was once owned by Daybreak’s EG7, but was sold back in 2022 specifically to divest from the Russian business. At the time, Innova Games published several Western MMORPGs in the CIS region; following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, several international companies severed ties with their Russian subsidiaries to avoid sanctions. This would be the obvious assumption, given that they are already a game publisher, although we’re not sure how they pull this off legally.

However, our coverage of MY.GAMES also featured the Polish private equity firm Innova Capital specifically. At the end of 2022, MY.GAMES also split its holdings to separate its western arm from its Russian arm. The new CEO referred to the newly formed, spun-off company Astrum Entertainment as an “independent Russian company,” although, as we later found out, the head of MY.GAMES was also the founder of the Russian company – with Innova Capital being the majority shareholder.

Because the memo is ambiguous, we don’t know exactly what is going on or what the legal implications will be at this point, so we’ve reached out to our contacts – stay tuned.
