Grimsthorpe Castle near Bourne proposes converting a bike rental into a farm and gift shop

A bike rental shop could become a farm and a souvenir shop.

Grimsthorpe Castle, near Bourne, plans to convert its cycle hire facility, which has been in use for over ten years, into a new farm and gift shop.

According to the applicants, the shop would “offer both visitors to the castle park and gardens and locals the opportunity to purchase high-quality agricultural products from the region”.

The planned shop is already being used as a retail space, so a new farm shop could be considered as a “continuation of the use”.

The location is close to the existing parking lot, so there would be no change in vehicle traffic on the site.

The plan is to open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. From Monday to Friday, the opening hours depend on the opening times of the property.

However, the store remains open on weekends when the property is closed.

A new farm and gift shop complement the castle’s ambition to improve facilities for visitors after plans for a new art gallery between the castle and the manor were approved in 2021.

These plans included the reconstruction and redesign of the existing coach house and stable building as well as the construction of two new parking spaces.

The new parking spaces are now finished and construction of the art gallery is progressing.
