Jayson Tatum drops 3 words as he relives his son Deuce’s wonderful gift that made his childhood dream come true

NBA 2K25 will be released on September 6, 2024 and is available for pre-order now. Over the years, 2K has featured various NBA players on their covers, and this year’s star is Jayson Tatum. The Boston Celtics superstar certainly deserves the cover, especially after becoming NBA champions in the 2023-24 season. Tatum played a significant role in winning the championship, including his game-winning layup in the final minutes of Game 5 that sealed the win for the Celtics.

The Celtics star received the news in a very special way. His son and biggest fan, Deuce Tatumannounced the big news on his birthday and it made Jayson Tatum emotional. Tatum was relaxing with his mom when Deuce arrived with a small bag. Inside, JT found out that he made it to the cover of 2K, something he had dreamed of since he was a kid.

We all know the strong father-son bond between Tatum and his son Deuce. JT’s little man has even drawn attention with his on-court appearances at his dad’s games. Having his little guy, who has been with him the whole time, break the news to him on his birthday made the moment even more special and had the former Duke star saying: “I got emotional.”

With the new 2K game coming out soon, Ronnie also gave 2K some insight into how they chose Jayson Tatum as the cover athlete for NBA 2K25.

Why did 2K choose Jayson Tatum as the cover athlete for NBA 2K25?

Accordingly Ronnie2kthey chose Tatum for the cover a while back because they had to plan ahead for shipping and product dates. They wanted to build a story around the guy, and it’s been ages since they’ve had a champion on the cover (since 2K16). They look for three things: whether the player is on the rise (Tatum just won a chip and is still hot), whether there’s a good story to hype (Tatum was all over the news in the offseason), and whether the player is genuine and genuinely interested in the game.

Additionally, Tatum is immersed in the game and knows it inside and out. They recently worked together in St. Louis, where Tatum talked about playing 2K as a kid and how, according to Ronnie 2K, he was directly involved in the design of 2K25.

“It’s a really authentic story and what a year he had to earn that honor and win his first championship and a second gold medal. It’s all going strong, Jayson. He’s had a lot to do this summer. I’m sure he’ll hold a grudge and maybe he’ll be MVP.” Said Ronnie 2k.

Although Tatum had a tough time at the Olympics, being the cover athlete for 2K should give him a boost and motivate him to show his skills in the upcoming NBA season. Will Tatum be voted MVP next year? What do you think of him?
