I love bringing fall into my kitchen. Whether I’m baking apple pie, lighting cute candles, or decorating with seasonal styles, I always have a lovely time in this space this season.
If you’re looking to create a cozy atmosphere this season, I have a number of useful tips from designers for you. “My favorite thing about fall is being outside – the colorful leaves, the fresh air and the golden sunlight,” explains Kim Morris, interior designer and founder of Kimberly Morris Interiors. “When I decorate for fall, I want to bring the beauty and atmosphere of the outdoors inside as much as possible.”

1. Decorate with foliage

While I’m a fan of buying fall home decor, if you’re on a budget or want to usher in the holiday season quickly, you should know that some of the most beautiful decorations are actually right on your doorstep.
“After making sure my client is OK with it, I simply cut a small branch from one of their backyard trees when the leaves have changed color but are not yet crispy,” Kim explains.
“I put it in a large glass vase on the kitchen counter or island and it becomes an impressive focal point,” she adds.
If your trees aren’t big enough to trim, Kim recommends picking up some artificial branches from a retailer like Afloral or Michaels. “They now have a range of realistic artificial branches that you can reuse and repurpose without trimming your trees.”
2. Change the materials

I’m a huge fan of switching out my fabrics between seasons to subtly change the feel of a room—but now I’m going to take Kim’s tip and swap out harder materials, too.
“I love swapping out cans, vases and decor in the kitchen for warmer metals (like brass or copper), darker-toned woods (like walnut) and kitchen towels in neutral tones,” explains Kim.
“I display a client’s cutting board collection on the counter to add some natural wood tones, swap out salt and pepper shakers for beautiful brass ones, and hang cream and taupe towels over the oven and dishwasher handles to up the coziness factor,” she says.
None of these are expensive or complicated on their own, but doing them all together, Kim says, brings out the best parts of the season in an obvious but not cheesy way.

If there’s one thing that symbolizes fall for me, it’s pumpkins. I buy sweet, fresh pumpkins from my local grocery store, and you can, too.
“Bring a combination of fresh or artificial pumpkins and gourds in different sizes and colors, such as white ‘Casper’ pumpkins or mini ‘Fairytale’ pumpkins,” explains Rachel.
“Wooden elements such as cutting boards, cake stands or trays can serve as a base for displaying these seasonal items and add a rustic charm to your kitchen,” she adds.

“Fall-themed chalkboards and printables can be used to write seasonal messages or add a personal touch, and they can easily be updated throughout the season,” she adds.
