For many people, especially at this time of year, there is nothing better than getting on a plane and flying off to experience a different environment and a change from everyday life.

International tourism has bounced back with a bang following a decline after the Covid pandemic brought overseas travel to a halt in 2020. Industry bosses are now expecting one of the busiest seasons ever, with many taking advantage of the school holidays to travel, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Both airports and tour operators are reporting huge booking volumes, but anyone who has ever travelled by plane knows that it can be difficult to sit comfortably during the hours-long journey.

Of course, many airlines offer “extra legroom” seats for an additional fee, but if you’re wondering which airlines offer the most legroom without paying more, we compared legroom and seat width on flights with 12 popular airlines operating short-haul flights from the UK in a 2023 Which? survey.

To determine legroom, the study measured the “seat pitch,” i.e. the distance between your seat and the seat in front of you.
