Nebraska’s Football Corner has some good advice for new Big Ten teams

Tommy Hill had to recalibrate the player type he wanted to play for the Nebraska football program after arriving in Lincoln. Coming from the Pac-12, he was used to a certain style of game. He’s the first to admit that what he did at Arizona State didn’t really translate to the Big 10.

It took a while, but Hill did adapt. He is now considered one of the best corners in the conference and the country. He is also still adapt and transform into a better tackler.

This makes the Nebraska football star ideally suited to warn the Big Ten’s new recruits about what to expect in their first season in the league. “The Big Ten is made up of a lot of big bodies,” Hill said. according to the Omaha World-Herald“In the Pac-12, it was big opponents, but a lot of seven-on-seven football.”

Hill said he learned that almost immediately after arriving in Lincoln. He still shakes his head when he remembers the first hard hit he took in practice from 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end Thomas Fidone.

He’s never played as much run coverage as he has this season. That’s one of the reasons he’s still regrouping this fall. He knows he can’t just be a guy who goes into coverage like he might have been in the Pac-12.

He believes Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA could be in for a rude awakening. Considering the Ducks are at least expected to compete for the Big Ten title, things will get interesting.

There have been comments from some of these Pac-12 teams that make you think Hill is right. They may not know what to really expect yet. A lot of “the Big Ten is going to have to adjust to us.”

Ask Scott Frost if the conference is the one that has to make the adjustments. Ask UCF or Cincinnati in the Big 12 how difficult it is to move from one conference to another and still play the brand of football you’re known for.

Tommi Hill will be able to help teach two of the new recruits in back-to-back games. The Nebraska football team will play UCLA on November 2nd and then USC on November 16th. Let’s hope the two newcomers haven’t learned their lesson by then.
