CNBC reported that Kinzinger, who served in Congress from 2011 to 2023, addressed members of his own party rather than the Democratic audience during his speech at the United Center in Chicago.
“His fundamental weakness has gripped my party like a disease. It has robbed us of all strength, weakened our backbone and plunged us into a fever that has separated us from our values,” he said.
“Democrats are as patriotic as we are. They love this country as much as we do. And they are as zealous about defending American values at home and abroad as we conservatives have always been,” Kinzinger said.

Kinzinger, who identified himself as a Republican in his speech, said: “How can a party claim to be patriotic when it idolizes a man who tried to overturn a free and fair election?”
After the events of January 6, 2021, he was one of ten Republicans who voted for impeachment in Trump’s second impeachment trial.
Kinzinger also voted for and served on the special committee to investigate the January 6 riots. Along with then-Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming), she was the only Republican on the committee.
Throughout the week, several former Trump supporters and associates spoke at the DNC, supporting Harris and urging their fellow Republicans to vote against their party and its chairman.
“If you think these principles are worth defending, then I urge you to make the right choice. Vote for our core values. Vote for Kamala Harris,” Kinzinger said.
