Woman ‘tramples on cat and eats it in front of neighbors’ | US News

A woman is said to have killed and eaten a cat in front of her horrified neighbors.

According to Canton police, 27-year-old Allexis Telia Ferrell stomped on the head of a cat in an apartment complex in Stark County, Ohio, and devoured it “in a residential area in front of several people.”

Ferrell was arrested around 11 p.m. last Friday following the incident on 13th Street SE in Canton.

She was charged with animal injury, disorderly conduct and pet prohibition, according to court documents obtained by Gray News.

Ferrell was arraigned on Monday and her bail was initially set at $100,000.

In her mug shot released by the Stark County Jail, she is seen with a blank, serious expression on her face.

Her next court date is scheduled for August 26.

In the United States, eating cats and dogs has long been considered inhumane.

Former US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who withdrew his candidacy for the White House as an independent on Friday, came under criticism in July after a photo emerged suggesting he had eaten barbecued dog. Kennedy defended himself, saying the carcass he was holding was a goat.

The consumption of certain animals is also internationally frowned upon.

Late last year, the Gia Bảo restaurant in Thịnh Đán district of Thái Nguyên, Vietnam, which served “specialty cat meat” and cat soup, was closed. The slaughterhouse drowned 300 cats every month and served them to people in the Southeast Asian country, where eating cats is relatively common.

The owner told Metro.co.uk that he did not want to kill cats, but did so to earn a living.

“Before I sold cat meat in this restaurant, I served other normal foods and drinks,” said Pham Quoc Doanh.

“However, the income was not enough to support my family. Then I tried selling cat meat because there was no other restaurant in the area that offered it.”

In 2018, a Cambodian woman was arrested after filming herself skinning, cooking and eating endangered animals to earn money from YouTube views. Among the animals she ate was an endangered fishing cat.
