“Has she switched parties?” CNN host Jennings sarcastically welcomes Kamala Harris to the GOP for claiming she is “tougher” than Trump on the border

CNN’s Scott Jennings on Friday sarcastically “greeted” Vice President Kamala Harris to the Republican Party after its recent comments that it was “tougher” on the border than the former President Donald Trump.

On Friday CNN NewsNightJennings joined host Audie Cornish As part of a panel discussion and in response to Harris’ tough comments on the border at her rallies and in a new campaign ad, she said there was no one who would believe her – except maybe aliens.

After playing a clip from the Harris-Walz rally in Arizona earlier in the day, Cornish mentioned to Jennings recent poll results showing that voters continue to trust Republicans more than Harris and Democrats on immigration and border issues.

Before answering, Jennings first replied: “Of course, but first I want to welcome Kamala Harris, the Vice President, to the Republican Party.”

“Is that all it takes?” said Cornish.

“So, I mean, I saw her ad today and I thought, did I – did I miss something, did she switch parties? Is she running as a Republican now?” Jennings said. “Because if you were an alien and you landed on this planet and you didn’t know anything and you saw this ad, you would say, ‘Well, this Republican is looking pretty tough on the border right now.'”

Referring to the “Tougher” ad that premiered this week, Jennings continued, “It is inconceivable that anyone in this country would believe that Kamala Harris or any other Democratic presidential candidate, after everything they have said and done, will crack down on the border any tougher than Donald Trump.”

The White House and some media outlets have denied and unsuccessfully attempted to rebut their own previously repeated claims and labels of Harris as the administration’s “border czar,” an informal nickname for the person in charge of the issue in public, while also attempting to restore the vice president’s image on the border and immigration, a top issue for American voters.

JENNINGS: Of course, but first I would like to welcome Kamala Harris, the Vice President, to the Republican Party.

CORNISH: Is that all it takes?

JENNINGS: So, I mean, I saw her ad today and I was like, did I – did I miss something, did she switch parties? Is she running as a Republican now? Because if you were an alien and you landed on this planet and you didn’t know anything and you saw this ad, you would say, “Well, this Republican, she’s looking pretty tough on the border right now.”

It is inconceivable that anyone in this country would believe that Kamala Harris or any other Democratic presidential candidate, after everything they have said and done, will take a tougher stance on the border than Donald Trump.

I want to Venmo the DNC right now. So they’re going to keep running these ads and keep reminding people what a disaster this is!
