Darling Ingredients and Diamond Green Diesel announce joint venture for sustainable aviation fuel

Darling Ingredients Inc. and Diamond Green Diesel (DGD) have announced a joint venture to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to commercial aviation. DGD’s Port Arthur, Texas facility will provide 1 million gallons of clean SAF to commercial aviation out of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), with the option to supply an additional 4 million gallons. This is part of a 12-month agreement with Valero Marketing and Supply Company and World Fuel Services.

The SAF will be blended with conventional jet fuel to create a SAF blended product, which is expected to be delivered to JetBlue via World Fuel. The project is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2024 and has the potential to convert approximately 50% of DGD’s current annual production capacity to SAF. Upon completion, DGD is expected to be one of the largest SAF producers globally.

“Darling Ingredients and its joint venture partner have proven for more than 10 years that DGD is the lowest cost, lowest carbon and most profitable renewable energy producer on the market,” said Randall C. Stuewe, Chairman and CEO. “Our partner’s technical and operational expertise, coupled with our knowledge and unmatched offering of waste fats and oils, make DGD the market leader in decarbonizing heavy-duty trucking and air travel.”
