According to the game’s art director, Obsidian’s upcoming RPG Avowed is “aiming for 30 FPS.”

In the Iron Lords podcast, art director Matt Hansen described 30 FPS as the “absolute minimum” the team is aiming for.

“It’s a first-person single-player game, you don’t necessarily need those 60 frames. And that allows us to do a lot more with VFX and lighting and all that other stuff,” Hansen said.

“We made this compromise relatively early on and are really happy with it. The game runs pretty smoothly considering how straightforward it is, and that was always our goal.”

Avowed was originally scheduled to release later this year, but is now set to release in 2025. Xbox had planned for a 2024 release for the game, with a blog post from developer Obsidian seemingly (accidentally) confirming a November 12 release before that post was removed.

However, a message posted by the official Xbox account on X confirmed that the game will now be released on February 18, 2025.

The game’s director, Carrie Patel, recently claimed that the game has more than 10 endings.

They added: “I can tell you the number of our closing slides is in the double digits, in the end there can be many different combinations.”

Avowed was announced in July 2020 as a first-person fantasy action RPG set in the world of Eora, originally introduced in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity series. Patel says the game will be similar in length to Obsidian’s previous game, The Outer Worlds.
