He is shy. He is Square. He is a very average person. And yet, as the trailer for the documentary Art dealer Shows, Adam Weiner (who makes all of these claims himself) gets extroverted, hip and larger than life when he takes the stage to present rock revivalists Low Cut Connie. The full documentary, co-directed by Weiner with first-time filmmaker Roy Power, hits select theaters on September 6 and will be available on demand on October 1 for anyone not near select theaters.

The two-minute trailer shows the artist wowing audiences as rock’n’roll superhero Low Cut Connie and a gentle weeper, reflecting on his journey in a modest room with checkered curtains. “I believe that average people are capable of great things,” he says. He goes on to explain, “I started this band when I was 31 and I thought I would never have a career.” The grin on his face, which appears soon in the clip, both in the interview and when speaking to his fans, shows how things have evolved.

The film tour begins on September 6 at the Cinema Village in New York City. Weiner will be present at the event for a question-and-answer session and Power will also participate in discussions at some screenings.

“I am completely overwhelmed by the response to this film and the music in it,” Weiner said in a statement. “These screenings are going to be a blast for me and everyone in the room. … We want to make people laugh, cry, dance and scream, and it will be amazing to see all of that in action at these screenings.”

After a Art dealer Screening last year at the Philadelphia Film Festival, Rolling Stone profiled the artist and spoke to him about another aspect of his personality that he explores in the film: his Jewish heritage. The interview took place a few weeks after Hamas invaded Israel and prompted Weiner to reflect on his friendship with Palestinian Americans. “By and large, the world hates us both, Jews and Palestinians,” Weiner said. “Ultimately, they don’t really want us in their countries. It’s the kind of prejudice that can either harden you to violence or make you an artist, someone who paints the world from the margins. I hope for more art and less violence.”
