Mike Kellogg named News & Eagle publisher in Oklahoma

Press release |

Veteran newspaper executive Mike Kellogg returns to Oklahoma as publisher of the Enid News & Eagle.

Kellogg replaces longtime editor Jeff Funk, who is retiring after 47 years in the newspaper industry. Funk had been editor or publisher of the News & Eagle since 2001 and retired in 2021 but returned to the role temporarily last summer. Funk remains a member of the paper’s editorial board.

Kellogg will also be publisher of the Stillwater News Press, a position he held from 1997 to 2008. Both newspapers are part of a group of Oklahoma newspapers owned by CNHI.

“Mike’s passion and dedication to local newspapers will be a great asset to the already talented teams in Enid and Stillwater,” said Terry Connor, a regional executive director for CNHI.

Kellogg’s newspaper career began in 1990 when he was hired as advertising director at the Muskogee Phoenix. Kellogg then worked for three years as advertising director for the Niagara Gazette in Niagara Falls, New York, before joining CNHI as editor of Stillwater.

Kellogg was most recently Chief Revenue Officer at Indij Public Media, the parent company of Indian County Today, and prior to that spent over six years as Director of Marketing Communications at the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise.

Kellogg has three children, Joshua, Gabrielle and Jillian. Joshua and Gabrielle are graduates of Stillwater High School.

“I loved our time in Oklahoma,” Kellogg said. “Newspapers play an important role in every community and are now information centers through newspaper, internet and mobile platforms. I have met our staff and they are wonderful. We will enjoy our time together.”

Kellogg grew up in Fort Defiance, Arizona. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from New Mexico State University. Kellogg completed the Advanced Executive program in the graduate school at Northwestern University. He has served as president and treasurer of the Indigenous Journalists Association.
