Attention meat lovers! Study: Eating any kind of meat can lead to diabetes | Health

From red meat to poultry to processed meat, here’s how each meat category can increase your risk of diabetes.

We are what we eat – this statement is true. The food we eat and the way we eat it contributes to our health. A nutritious diet can help us become healthier, whereas regular consumption of too much fried and unhealthy food can negatively affect our health. A recent study suggested a link between food and chronic diseases – the relationship between meat consumption and type 2 diabetes. The study was conducted with almost two million participants from 20 countries – the study suggested that different types of meat can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes.

The study suggested that eating any type of meat – whether processed, unprocessed or poultry – may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. The study also challenged the assumption that poultry is relatively healthier than red meat. It also makes us rethink meat as our preferred protein source. The study was conducted on a large population, including the Americas, Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, South Asia and the Western Pacific, and provided a global perspective on the link between meat consumption and diabetes.

The study looked at three categories of meat consumption: unprocessed red meat (such as beef, pork and lamb), processed meat (such as bacon, sausages and hot dogs) and poultry (including chicken, turkey and duck). They then studied their association with diabetes for about ten years. The results showed that for every 100 grams of unprocessed meat consumed, the risk of diabetes increased by 10 percent. Eating 50 grams of processed meat can increase the risk of diabetes by 15 percent, while eating 100 grams of poultry per day can increase the risk of diabetes by 8 percent. These results remained even after examining the influence of other factors such as age, gender, education level, physical activity and body mass index.
