The third night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) ended with Governor Tim Walz officially accepting the party’s nomination for vice president.

Maura Keller, Democratic candidate for Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District, hosted a watch party for his acceptance speech at Revival Wines in downtown Fayetteville, Georgia. Keller said everyone is invited to her watch party, saying, “Veterans, teachers, public servants, students and families, let’s all come together and support the Harris-Walz campaign.”

Keller was supported by local residents, Democratic activists and the Fayette County Democratic Committee.

In addition, Keller said the purpose of the Watch Party is to “continue to move the movement forward.”

As soon as you walked into Revival Wines, you could feel the energy of the wine, food and laughter resonating throughout the building as everyone waited for Walz to take the stage.

When Amanda Gorman, poet and activist, took the stage, the entire room fell silent as she listened to her inspiring words and speech. Gorman was truly inspirational because people’s eyes and ears never left her until she left the stage.

Screams and cheers echoed from the television into the hall. It was clear that the people who had come to the election party really believed in what Harris-Waltz would continue to bring to democracy if they were elected.

People came to fight for the future of democracy and to show their support for Harris and Walz. When Oprah Winfrey appeared, it was like watching Michelle Obama speak all over again. She was captivating, assertive, and spoke her inspiring truth. Partygoers laughed, clapped, and praised Oprah for her speech.

During her speech, she said, “We cannot go back to slavery” and “America was not made for me then.” Oprah was, in the words of the audience, “one of the highlights of the evening” and she did not disappoint.

Some audience members decided to leave before Walz came out, as he didn’t show up until just after 11 p.m., but when he came out, eyes were on the TV. Overall, the atmosphere of the evening was good and it was an evening of coming together with a single goal: to show support for democracy and the upcoming November election.

One thing is certain: the Harris-Walz ticket has plenty of supporters ready to go to the polls to fight for democracy and freedom in Georgia.

There are less than 80 days until election day.
