Like any Hong Konger worth his white pepper, I love Yum Cha. For us vegetarians, Lock Cha Teahouse (The KS Lo Gallery, Hong Kong Park, Admiralty. Tel: 2801 7177) does not disappoint, although I think it is much more difficult to find great vegan dim sum than three years ago.

My favorite lunch on the go is the made-to-order flats at Treehouse (Shop 1, G/F, H Code, 45 Pottinger Street, Central. Tel: 6022 3262). For a cheaper and more delicious meal, try the Masala Dosas at Sangeetha Vegetarian Restaurant (Wing On Plaza, UF1-4 & 31, 62 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Tel: 2640 2123) they are.

When I feel like something spicy and numbing, I love Chili Fagara (7 Old Bailey Street, Central. Tel: 2796 6866), with a great Sichuan menu packed with vegan-friendly dishes. Highlights include the plant-based “meat” dumplings, salad wraps and sweet and sour eggplant.

My meeting point for appointments is Table Tennis 129 (L/G, Nam Cheong House, 129 Second Street, Sai Ying Pun. Tel: 9835 5061). Nothing makes me happier than a Gin Tonic with my husband at the bar while we devoured the best plate after plate Pan with tomatoes I have ever tried.

If I have to invite someone to lunch, Mak Mak (Shop 217A, Landmark Atrium, 15 Queen’s Road Central. Tel.: 2983 1003) offers reliably good vegetarian Thai food that always impresses.

I would also invite visitors to Arcane (3/F, 18 On Lan Street, Central. Tel: 2728 0178) for Michelin-star cuisine, followed by vegan gelato at Messina (37-43 Pottinger Street, Central).

For the ultimate meal, there is nothing better than a private lunch at Olive leaf (Pal Kok Village, Lamma Island. @oliveleafhk on Instagram), where the Israeli home chef Ayelet Idan cooks the best oriental spread around. The almond labneh, the vine leaf cake, her homemade bread, the eggplants decorated with jewels – everything is excellent!

Outside of Hong Kong, I love the street food in Vietnam, the ramen in Japan and I have a particular fondness for the dishes of Santiago de Chile.

In Italy Sosta del Pio (Localita Sosta del Papa 6. 50021 Barberino Val d’Elsa, Italy. Tel.: +39 055 807 5923) is a back road place in Tuscany where I had probably the best ravioli with a beetroot pasta wrapping and a pumpkin and walnut filling that I have ever tasted.

I also have fond memories of Mughlai cuisine in Delhi, like the Dal makhani at Bukhara (ITC Maurya, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Diplomatic Enclave, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi. Tel: +91 11 2622 2233), which I am now veganising at home.

But for me, London is probably the best food city in the world in terms of products, cooking quality and variety of cuisine. I still love Ottolenghi (various locations including 50 Artillery Lane, London. Tel: +44 020 7247 1999) My mother took me to the first little delicatessen in Notting Hill 20 years ago.

Los Angeles is another city that is at the forefront when it comes to food. I am a fan of Gjelina (1429 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice, California. Tel.: +1 310 450 1429), which I first visited almost a decade ago and which is still excellent.
