The company announced this summer that the price of subscribing to a channel on desktop would increase by a dollar in the U.S., from $5 to $6. This change first took effect in July, when Twitch subscription costs for U.S. viewers first increased. The move followed earlier this year in the U.K., Canada, Australia and Turkey.
The larger increase in subscription costs on mobile is likely a response to the fees both major tech companies charge for in-app purchases. This issue has embroiled the companies in several lawsuits, and they have reduced their commission rate for several years. Both have introduced new fee structures in Europe in response to the Digital Markets Act.
