After attending David Dobrik’s birthday party, lifestyle vloggers Remi Ashten and Alisha Marie were criticized by their fans.
Alisha Marie has long created back-to-school guides and discount shopping tips for younger audiences. Remi Ashten’s content revolves around food, diet and stories, but in recent years the pair have moved into more mature topics and styles, reflecting their evolution as people and content creators.
For this reason, their loyalty to certain “deposed” influencers shocks viewers.
Not long ago, popular vlogger David Dobrik became a pariah after a series of disturbing allegations of misconduct were made against him and his team in rapid succession, ranging from racist accusations to allegations of sexual abuse and endangering human life. Jeff Wittek’s lawsuit against David Dobrik LLC over a crane accident in which Wittek lost his eye is still ongoing.
Although Dobrik still regularly creates content for Snapchat, he has left the YouTube platform, putting him out of sight and out of mind for many viewers. However, many of his followers still post regularly on the video platform, including Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar with their podcast “Zane and Heath Unfiltered.”
In the months leading up to Dobrik’s birthday party, Remi and Alisha announced that their podcast, Pretty Basic, would collaborate with Zane and Heath’s and will now be released weekly under the name Basicly Unfiltered. Although Zane and Heath have regained some of their image since Dobrik’s departure from YouTube – and the many issues surrounding her behavior and opinions – there are persistent hints that the two Florida-born boys are still in touch with their pseudo-ex-boss. However, this consistent collaboration between Remi Ashten and Alisha Marie has been largely forgiven by fans.
The bubble burst on August 11, when Ashten and Marie were seen in photos at David Dobrik’s high-profile 28th birthday party at his Los Angeles mansion.
Fans took to other social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter to let their favorite influencers know they were disappointed in their decision to attend Dobrik’s party and, in turn, showed him their support, despite his numerous allegations of misconduct. Unfortunately, neither Ashten nor Marie have made an official statement on the situation, and some are quick to suspect that the two are avoiding the conversation outright and even deleting negative comments.
There has also been speculation that Remi Ashton deleted her X-account (Twitter) due to this situation, if not out of caution to avoid further ridicule.
But this might just be the beginning of the end of Remi Ashten and Alisha Marie’s reign, as some fans of the longtime influencers are fed up with the excessive shopping and over-consumption in their vlogs. Some wonder how much food Ashten overstocks for an Airbnb fridge when she’s only staying for the weekend, or her newfound obsession with Sunny Angels. Marie, on the other hand, has always favored fast fashion and micro-trends, contributing to a toxic shopping culture among her channel’s younger viewers.
The June 27 episode of “Basically Unfiltered” also detailed an incident: “Alisha was taken to the hospital.” The group discussed, with the delicacy of a hippo, how she consumed so much alcohol that she needed medical attention. The four laugh and joke about the alcohol abuse and the crazy origins of the evening, which began as a “team-building experience.”
When the duo’s presence at Dobrik’s birthday party shocked everyone, longtime and controversial YouTuber Trisha Paytas discussed the situation on her podcast. Only Trishas a long-time whistleblower about David Dobrik’s misconduct. She pointed out the questionable motives behind attending his party and the hypocrisy of all the influencers involved.
It’s almost as if social media stars are adopting unethical habits because they need to make a profit from generating content, ignoring negativity as another means of getting clicks, views, and search results.
