Birthday boy Mike Evans is honored by his team and strives for immortality in football in 2024

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is the man of the moment. He turns 31 on August 21. His teammates didn’t let the day pass without honoring him with a cake at practice before “showering” him with it.

Evans, the Bucs’ seventh pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, will finish his career as one of the best players to ever wear a Buccaneers uniform. Evans holds 13 franchise records, including most receiving touchdowns as a rookie and in his career. He is the only NFL player to begin his career with 10 consecutive seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards.

He continues to chase football immortality, setting new records that could potentially be broken in 2024. Evans needs 1,000 receiving yards in 2024 to tie record holder Jerry Rice, who has 1,000 or more yards in 11 consecutive seasons. If he gets 1,320 receiving yards, he will become the sixth player to reach 13,000 receiving yards in his first 11 seasons. The others are legends Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Torrey Holt, Julio Jones and Randy Moss.

Evans has scored 94 touchdowns in his career. If he catches six touchdowns in 2024, he will become the fifth NFL player to catch 100 touchdowns in his first 11 seasons, joining the elite group of Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison and Terrell Owens.

Mike Evans is under contract with the Bucs through the 2025 season. Fans hope that he plays his entire career in Tampa Bay and that 2025 does not mark the end of his surely Hall of Fame career.
