An interview with New York-based interior designer and founder of Revelry, Purvi Padia

For Purvi Padia, home is a feeling. New York City-based interior designer and founder of CELEBRATION says: “Hosting is my love language.”

While entertaining may be one of the world’s oldest traditions, REVELRY’s designs bring fresh modernity and joy to seasonal gatherings anywhere in the world. Extraordinary parties create intimate and warm spaces, but also bring newness and discovery to the smallest details on the table. Padia’s wanderlust drives many of the global influences reflected in her six tabletop collections and decorative home accessories.

In many ways, her collections allow hosts to create warm and inviting environments for the parties they throw, with creative features and textures that allude to the designer’s global perspective and production. “Travel has always been an important part of my life – I rarely feel more inspired than when I’m exploring a new city or country. I wanted the collection to have a global element, and sourcing and producing from around the world is part of that mission,” she shares.

So we tapped entertainment expert Purvi Padia to find out more about her sophisticated designs, background and stylish celebrations.

We know that the concept of hosting is central to the collection. Hosting, gathering and entertaining has such great cultural significance. Tell us about your concept.

“I was born and raised in America, but my roots are deeply Native American. And in our culture, my mother always used to say, ‘When you’re in our house, you’re not a guest, you’re family.’ Growing up, my house was always full of friends and family, and the idea of gathering with the people you love to tell stories, share ideas, and share laughter over a meal is something that’s deeply ingrained in me.”

People create a second home in many ways, whether it is their holiday home or special events. How do you create a second home?

“I believe it’s a feeling, not a place, that creates ‘home.’ That being said, I like the idea of filling a space with objects that feel warm, inviting, and like a soft place to land. From food, sounds, and scents to decor, color palettes, and silhouettes, home is where you feel the comfort of familiarity and belonging.”

Are there global or international influences in your collection?

“The gold accents are reminiscent of beautiful Indian gold jewelry, the blown glass from Italy and the pressed glass from France and Sweden. In addition, the marble and stone silhouettes are a nod to old European architecture.”

What was your best trip and why?

“Travel is one of my greatest passions, but if I had to choose one, I would choose a trip to my home state of Gujarat in India in 2018. I had just launched the LION Fund in partnership with UNICEF and this was my first visit to see the initiative in action. It was by far the most emotional and formative week of my life and changed me forever.”
