Due to the ongoing Gaza war, American Airlines is suspending flights to Israel until March 2025.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines will extend its suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv as the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip continues to rage.

American will cease operations to and from Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport through March 29, 2025, the airline said. Customers whose travel plans are affected can rebook or cancel free of charge and receive a refund.

“We will continue to work closely with our partner airlines to support customers traveling between Israel and European cities with connections to the United States,” an airline spokesperson wrote in a statement.

According to American Airlines, your change fee will be waived if you:

  • Traveling on an American Airlines flight
  • Are booked in any fare class, including Basic Economy
  • Buy your ticket by February 11, 2024
  • The trip is scheduled for October 7, 2023 to March 29, 2025.
  • Travel opportunity from 26 October 2024 to 29 April 2025
  • Do not change your departure or destination
  • Rebook into the same cabin or pay the difference
  • Cancel your trip and request a refund

All changes must be booked by March 29, 2025.

American Airlines, along with Delta Airlines and United Airlines, has begun suspending flights to and from Tel Aviv on October 7, 2023, the day of the Hamas-led attack on Israel that killed an estimated 1,200 people and started the war. More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the war, according to the Palestinian authorities.

Delta flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Israel are suspended until August 31United has resumed flights to Israel.

The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it the bodies of six hostages recovered captured in the attack on October 7. There are still more than 100 hostages held in Gazaand about a third of them are said to be dead, according to Israel.
