“Music On The Street” continues in Newtown with singer John Thomas

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — “Music On The Street,” a series of eight concerts featuring free summer performances, continues Thursday on historic State Street in Newtown Borough.

Presented by the Opus Outreach Foundation and sponsored by local businesses, the series features a different band and musician every Thursday through August 29. Music begins at 6 p.m. in front of the Opus Elite building at 16 South State Street.

The continuation of the summer series will take place on Thursday, August 22nd, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with singer John Thomas, sponsored by 4EverYoung Anti Aging Solutions.

Thomas was born and raised in Langhorne and has been self-taught for the past 15 years. His musical influences come from artists such as Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Doc Watson and the Beatles. He blends genres from blues and rock to folk and bluegrass, and his strong sense of rhythm delivers an exciting live performance.

He continues to play live in the greater Philadelphia area and has recently expanded his activities to North Carolina, Florida and more of the East Coast. If you can’t catch his Thursday night performance, he’ll be performing Friday night at 8 p.m. at Triple Sun Spirits on South State Street. Admission is free.

The series continues on August 29 with Bucks County singer-songwriter Meg Russell in a performance sponsored by Giovanni’s Fine Fashions and Custom Tailoring.

During concerts, the Opus Elite office will be open, offering free refreshments and an air-conditioned retreat from the heat. “Concertgoers are welcome to come in, enjoy the snacks, use the restroom if needed, or just cool off,” Gatta said.

Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets, order food from a nearby restaurant and find a spot on the sidewalk to enjoy the music, Gatta said.

Gatta said each performance is free and sponsored by Newtown businesses, but he encourages attendees to make a donation to the Opus Outreach Foundation, which supports local families in need, he said.

“There are no administrative costs, so every dollar raised goes to the foundation and helps people in the community,” Gatta continued. “We also ask that you support our corporate sponsors because they are the ones who provide the free music.”
