Woman has to shower before bed, but bathroom decor scares the internet

Personalized items can have a powerful or embarrassing impact—and one woman took bad luck to a whole new level.

A TikTok video posted by @ilovemosleyandkit has gone viral after it showed her preparing for her nightly ablution: a shower curtain with a blown-up portrait of her best friend’s face on it. Since the clip was posted on August 15, it has received over 8.2 million views and more than 1.5 million likes.

“POV (Point of View): I take a shower before bed but my shower curtain only shows my best friend’s face,” the creator captioned the video, which initially focuses on the floor before panning up to the imposing shower curtain.

People immediately started tagging their loved ones and friends in the comments to let them know what they would be getting for the next gift-giving holiday.

“(Be right back) I’m getting this for my family bathroom,” wrote @josiegacau. “My husband is going to hate it.”

But not everyone was convinced: “Nah, I woke up in the night and forgot and then accidentally got scared or something,” posted @mckennaxgale_.

In the comments, the creator revealed that the curtain was from Amazon, helping the majority of commenters who agreed with this alarming gift.

Personalized gifts are trending

The creator’s unveiling of a highly personalized, slightly shocking home decor item is reminiscent of similar moments across social media. The art of the personalized gift is widely represented on TikTok.

A video that went viral in July showed the personalized towel a woman carried with her on vacation when she missed her dog too much, which featured a blown-up image of her cocker spaniel’s face.

Another clip that was popular in May caught attention on TikTok when a woman’s husband surprised her at work with a T-shirt he was wearing that had her face all over it.

People shared their own experiences with personalized gifts, suggesting that @ilovemosleyandkit and the creators of these viral videos may be helping spark a comeback in flashy, personalized gifts.

“My partner gave me a pair of boxer shorts with her face on them for our anniversary years ago. I still get so excited when I get to wear them,” wrote @marxbro4521.

“My husband came over with one on our anniversary,” posted @renee_bowen. “He wears it everywhere.”

“I told my husband he reminds me of Jeff Goldblum so he bought himself a t-shirt with Jeff’s face on it to wear for my birthday and I love it,” commented @kimberleysewell2.

Newsweek asked @ilovemosleyandkit for a comment via TikTok.
