LSU football tight end Trey’Dez Green named to On3’s Freshman All-American team

The college football season officially begins this week, as Florida State and Georgia Tech head to Dublin, Ireland to begin the season. This week, we took a look at the official preseason AP All-American teams, along with the All-American teams of the other major selection teams.

On3 does a great job of covering all aspects of college football, from recruiting to the NFL, and has also released lists. This week, they unveiled their preseason True Freshman All-American teams. The Tigers only had one player on the team, but he may be the most exciting player on LSU’s roster.

The Tigers brought in Green as a five-star recruit who is ranked No. 31 nationally and the best tight end in the class. Since arriving on campus, Green has done nothing but impress, evolving from a backup in the tight end room to a weapon that LSU needs to use in Week 1.

With the arrival of Green, LSU is experimenting with the formations the Tigers will use offensively this season. Brian Kelly has previously mentioned that LSU will use more 12s and 13s this season, putting Green and Ka’Morreun Pimpton on the field alongside Mason Taylor. At 6’10” and 6’10”, Green and Pimpton have proven to be a nightmare in opposing defenses and may be LSU’s biggest weapons.

While LSU has a lot of questions at the wide receiver position after Kyren Lacy, the team is rock solid at the tight end position. The Tigers have a dominant offensive line and adding three massive tight ends could help LSU dominate the line of scrimmage even more. Adding 12 and 13 players gives LSU a massive advantage in the passing and rushing attack, which could help Garrett Nussmeier start the season.
