Married Olympians Hunter and Tara Davis-Woodhall go viral with iconic photo

US team athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall won an Olympic gold medal in the long jump on Thursday – and the hearts of millions of people when she was photographed celebrating with her husband Hunter on the sidelines.

The athletics star beat defending German champion Malaika Mihambo at the Paris Olympics with a jump of 7.10 metres. But it was Davis-Woodhall’s leap into Hunter’s arms that caught everyone’s attention, with photographers snapping the moment.

At X, Davis-Woodhall and Hunter, a multiple Paralympic medalist, were considered #CouplesGoals.

“Pure, unadulterated love, pride and joy for his wife, Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall. More of this energy, please. So healthy,” wrote user @TheGMcConnachie on X.

Another social media user added on X“Tara Davis-Woodhall’s husband Hunter cheers her on with a ‘Team Tara’ shirt as she becomes an Olympic champion,” adding a teary-eyed emoji.

Davis-Woodhall previously finished sixth at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and Thursday’s victory was her first Olympic medal.

“Take a bow, Tara Davis-Woodhall! She’s a first-time Olympic champion! #ParisOlympics,” wrote NBC Olympics & Paralympics on X.

Davis-Woodhall and Hunter married in October 2022and they have documented their relationship and their journey to the Olympics through their respective social media accounts, with Team USA even calling them the Olympic “power couple”.”

“What a moment,” the X-account added of the Olympics.

Indeed.

When asked what it was like to have Hunter standing on the sidelines cheering her on, Davis-Woodhall said: Today’s Craig Melvin said it meant “everything.”

“Hunter and I train together every day,” she said. “We eat, breathe, sleep every day and man, meeting him was such an amazing feeling.”

She added: “I couldn’t believe it and he just reminded me that I am the Olympic champion and that we have worked really hard to get to this moment.”
