Honoring Jeremiah Shaw: Cambridge community comes together for a special birthday

CAMBRIDGE, Maryland – On Monday evening, the Cambridge Fire Rescue Company, along with numerous other departments, celebrated a very special birthday in grand style.

Crowds of locals and a parade of dozens of fire trucks, police cars, emergency vehicles, motorcycles and more came to celebrate Jeremiah Shaw’s birthday.

Monday was Jeremiah’s 10th birthday. Since he was two years old, he has suffered from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a disease that causes all kinds of seizures.

Jeremiah was also recently diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease.

Despite all the hardships he and his family have been through, his mother, Maschell Hines, spoke about what it meant to receive this kind of support from the community: “He likes ambulances, fire trucks, motorcycles, dump trucks, all that. So I was able to reach out, and they spread the word, and it went around like crazy. It was really beautiful. I was so grateful.”

Maschell said it was very important for her family to document such events: “Pictures are very important to him because he might remember it all day, but not tomorrow. But in that moment, it means everything in the world to him.”
