Representative Emeritus Nancy Pelosi is expected to publish a new book this year.

The 84-year-old congresswoman will publish a new book entitled The Art of Power in August 2024, publisher Simon & Schuster announced on Thursday, April 18. The volume will detail Pelosi’s distinguished political career, spanning from her election as the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2007 – and her tenure as the first female Speaker for eight years – to her current role as Representative of California’s 11th District.

According to a statement shared with PEOPLE, The Art of Power shares Pelosi’s view of what it takes to make history. Pelosi did it herself when she became the first woman elected to lead the party in Congress in 2003, and later during her tenure as Speaker of the House (Pelosi served in the role twice). She stepped down as Speaker in 2023, but announced plans to seek re-election as House Democratic Leader in 2024.

During her tenure as Speaker of the House, Pelosi led efforts on a variety of issues, including the attempt to rescue the U.S. economy in 2008 and the fight to transform health care. Pelosi pushed major legislation through Congress, including the Patient Protection Act and the Affordable Care Act, and led efforts to craft and pass the American Rescue Plan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pelosi will also reflect on key moments in her career, including the insurrection of January 6, 2021. The congresswoman will describe her firsthand experiences that day, including how she fought to bring the National Guard to the Capitol and how she later led the effort to investigate January 6.
