Tyngsboro Block Party by the Bridge offers family fun on Saturday

TYNGSBORO – It’s time to party, and organizers of the annual Tyngsboro Block Party by the Bridge are inviting lots of people (except pets) to join in.

The event is organized by the city’s Recreation and Parks Department and draws several thousand people to downtown each year. Activities are centered at the intersection of Middlesex and Kendall Roads across from the Tyngsboro Bridge. It is the sixth year the city has hosted this party. It has been held annually since 2018, with the exception of 2020 when COVID forced its cancellation.

Among those looking forward to the Aug. 24 event is Eric Eldridge, chairman of the Select Board.

“The Block Party has something for everyone – fun activities, live music, craft activities and great food throughout the day, culminating in our amazing fireworks display at dusk,” said Eldridge.

More than 150 vendors, including local artisans, craftspeople, local businesses and food trucks, will set up booths. The number of participating vendors has grown over the years, with about 100 participating two years ago.

According to organizers, this year’s entertainment program includes three very energetic bands: StraightJacket, who play alternative rock from the 90s, 7 Day Weekend, which plays hits from many decades, and The Beautiful Losers, a Bob Seger tribute band.

New this year is a play zone on Kendall Road near the fire station, where participants will be challenged with a climbing wall, bungee trampoline, shark ride, basketball game, axe throwing and a diving pool.

Organizers are charging a $5 admission fee this year for anyone over 12 to help cover some of the costs of running the fair. Parking is free, however, with signs pointing to parking spaces on Westford Road, Middlesex Road and Bryant Lane.

Four entry gates will be operated along the venue. Entry is cash only, except at the main entrance, which also accepts prepaid tickets available at partybythebridge.com.

Although there is a petting zoo on site, the organizers prohibit pets from entering the grounds.

The festivities begin at 11 a.m. and end with a fireworks display over the Merrimack River at dusk. The event will take place regardless of the weather. The long-term forecast for the day calls for mostly sunny weather with highs of around 30 degrees.
