Democratic Party leaders focus on delegates from Wisconsin’s swing states

CHICAGO (WBAY) – It’s opening day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and Wisconsin delegates will be the center of attention at nearly every event.

On Monday morning, several senior party members addressed her at the delegation’s first breakfast meeting.

Additionally, Ron Johnson, the Republican U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, held a press conference on behalf of the Trump campaign on Monday. Wisconsin delegates will have prime seating on the convention floor at the United Center all week, as they represent a key swing state that will likely decide the election.

That’s also why they’re getting so much attention from Democratic leaders. Both Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz spoke to the Wisconsin delegation at breakfast Monday morning and stressed the importance of winning Wisconsin in November.

“It’s not a plan to hope we beat these guys. It’s a plan to say we’re just going to take care of the climate, or hope we fix inequities, or hope we get more housing. We have to have a plan to do those things, and the first plan starts with a plan to win this election,” said Gov. Tim Walz (D), vice presidential candidate and governor of Minnesota.

Delegates will hear President Joe Biden tonight, who will deliver the keynote speech at the convention alongside Hillary Clinton.

Meanwhile, Senator Ron Johnson spoke to reporters at the Trump Hotel, blaming Harris and Biden for inflation and refusing to answer questions since he moved to the top of the presidential ticket.

“I mean, she didn’t get a single vote in the primaries. This is a coup. They’re going to officially push the president to the curb tonight. Their coup is complete, and their nominee is going to be someone who didn’t get a single vote,” said Senator Ron Johnson (R) of Wisconsin.

The Harris campaign team, currently focused on the party convention, hopes to mobilize its base even more this week.
