Zoom Enhance rolls out to Pixel 8 Pro with Google Photos update

As announced last week, Zoom Enhance in Google Photos is now available on the Pixel 8 Pro.

Once the feature is available, when you edit an image in Google Photos and go to the Tools tab, you’ll see the new Zoom Enhancement feature alongside Magic Eraser, Deblur, Portrait Blur, and more. According to Google, this feature is “in its early stages and may produce unexpected or inaccurate results.” Suggestions include:

  • You can try cropping different areas to see different generated details.
  • After enhancing, you can pinch to zoom in on details. Tap and hold to compare with the original.

You zoom in and pan to the area you want, then tap Enhance Details. “Enhancement… takes a few seconds and has a near real-time animation, with Zoom Enhance operating entirely on-device (in airplane mode) as long as what you’re enhancing is stored locally.

You can leave feedback in the corner, with Google noting that it will “make Zoom Enhance better for everyone.” You can reset it or “save a copy.”

In the following example, “No Entry” is more clearly visible, but the text underneath is still not as legible.

We see this with version 6.95 of Google Photos on the Pixel 8 Pro. Force stop the app if Zoom Enhance doesn’t appear at first.

Zoom Enhance will also be available on Pixel 9 Pro, 9 Pro X, and 9 Pro Fold. Check out this gallery for more examples.
