He is survived by his daughter Lesley Dawson and son-in-law Bill Dawson of Centreville and grandchildren Matthew and Mark Dawson.

He was fortunate to be able to enjoy a very active retirement for over thirty years.

John loved his Catholic faith and family, his alma mater, the Nittany Lions, and generations of beagles who shared everything outdoors with him. He served his community for decades as a volunteer CCD teacher, also as an on-site prison chaplain and as a driver for patients without transportation.

John will be remembered locally as an active volunteer and member of the Precious Blood Catholic Church of Culpeper.

John’s family is deeply grateful for the years of support from his network of neighbors and the veterans support group Heroes Bridge, who helped him live an independent life in the home he loved.
