LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO/Gray News) – Some people share a birthday with their cousin, but rarely are cousins born on the same day, in the same hospital, and right next to each other.
Only a single room separates newborn cousins Olivia and Tazzlynn Petro as their mothers recover from childbirth with the support of brothers Andrew and Heath Petro at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.
The babies were born on the same day, just a few hours apart, in neighboring delivery rooms, reports KSWO.
“Her delivery room was right across from mine,” said Andrew Petro, Olivia’s father. “I could knock on the wall and ask, ‘Hey, are you OK in there?'”
Tazzlynn’s mother, Mikaela Petro, says the births were definitely unique.
“My cousin was even there watching her monitor for us. Then my brother-in-law kept an eye on my monitor while his wife was in labor. So it was a pretty neat sequence to watch each other give birth to our children,” she said.
Olivia’s mother, Stephanie Duncan, says she was excited to tell her sister-in-law.
“Yeah, I’m definitely excited. This doesn’t happen very often, so it’s something we can share as a family,” she said. “I don’t know if they’ll like it when they’re older, but we’ll see.”
If there’s anyone more excited than the babies’ parents, it’s grandmother Lynn Petro. She says this event will create a bond between the babies before they even leave the hospital.
“It’ll be like sisters. I mean, I know they’re cousins, but they have the same birthday. We’re a close-knit family, so it’ll be great,” she said.
The Petro brothers say that not only were all of their children born at the same hospital, but they themselves were born there; Andrew Petro, however, was born in the parking lot, his mother says.
