From August 7-8, 2024, contractors continued work on a new $27.3 million temporary training barracks project at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

In May 2024, contractors began site preparation for Fort McCoy’s fourth Temporary Training Force Barracks project, which was awarded to LS Black Constructors, LLC in February 2024 for approximately $27.3 million.

LS Black Constructors is a well-known name in the history of barracks construction at Fort McCoy, having built the first two of the 60,000-square-foot barracks for temporary training troops on the base.

In addition, the new Brigade Headquarters was recently constructed in the same block as the barracks. The exact contract value for the project was US$27,287,735.

The announcement of the award states that the money is intended “for the construction of the barracks, which will serve as accommodation for the soldiers trained at the facility”.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers, which is leading the project, the building will house up to 400 people and have more than 5,574 square meters of space when completed.

All of that work will continue with the master plan for Block 1600, which will include not only the four barracks but also three 20,000-square-foot brigade headquarters buildings – one of which is complete – and two officer quarters with 160 rooms each, said master planner Brian Harrie of Fort McCoy’s Directorate of Public Works.

The Fort McCoy summary, available at https://www.dvidshub.net/publication/issues/71646, also states that the facility is continually undergoing improvements to provide military personnel with numerous training opportunities.

“Over the past decade, Fort McCoy has experienced unprecedented facility modernization, training area development and expansion, enhanced training and customer support capabilities, and improved quality of life opportunities,” the summary states. “From unmanned aerial vehicles to urban training facilities to firing ranges and virtual training environments, Fort McCoy is prepared to meet the Army’s training needs in the 21st century.”

A contract for one of the officer quarters is also expected to be completed soon, Army Corps of Engineers officials said as early as early 2024. Harrie has explained in previous news articles that the entire redevelopment of this block at McCoy is known as the 1600 Block Transient Training Campus Plan.

Fort McCoy’s motto is to be the “Total Force Training Center.”

Located in the heart of the Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army base in Wisconsin.

The facility has provided support and facilities for field and classroom training to more than 100,000 military personnel from all branches of the armed forces nearly every year since 1984.
