Ray Lewis’ message to Colorado’s locker room set reasonable expectations for this season.

Ray Lewis’ message to the Colorado football locker room was fair. While he expected the team to lose in 2024, he emphasized that they must learn from those losses in order to move forward in their careers.

“We keep failing because we keep trusting in our talent,” said Lewis (h/t BuffStampede). “Your talent is just like your gift, it goes hand in hand with your curse. And if you don’t know how to balance that, man, let me tell you something: This life is going to eat you alive. And the ups and downs of wins and losses are going to start to dictate how you view life. I’ve learned more from my losses than I have from my wins. I’ve learned more from my failures than I have from my wins.

“My losses have defined who I am… on this page. I want you to think about three things: Who are you, what do you represent, and what are you chasing? These questions must be answered before you leave this earth.”

ESPN’s Pete Thamel doesn’t think Colorado will reach the goal Coach Prime’s goal: six wins and a bowl game in 2024.

“Looking at it now, I would take the under 5.5,” said Thamel (h/t One3). “On Shedeur, I texted a few NFL people this morning because I knew we were going to talk about it. A lot of NFL teams evaluated Shedeur last year because he was eligible for the draft and got mixed answers, but the assumption is that he will be the best in this quarterback class.

“You can blame a lot of people for 52 sacks, right? But at some point, quarterbacks are going to lose the ball on some of those… He’s got to be better at recognizing how to get out of situations. So I’m a fan of Shedeur Sanders, we’ll have him in the green room next year in Green Bay. But I’m just not as confident with what’s going on around him, especially still up front. So I’m going to go down.”

Deion Sanders’ former teammates and ESPN analysts believe Colorado doesn’t hold much promise in 2024. Fortunately, preseason opinions have never decided a team’s fate. However, on-field results have and will again.
