John Edward Haremza 1933-2013 – Great Bend Tribune

LARNED – John Edward Haremza, 80, died November 11, 2013 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
He was born on March 27, 1933 in Colby to Benjamin C. and Velma Marie Makings Haremza.
Ed was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy in Hays. He joined the Air Force in 1953. On December 29, 1953, he married Patricia Hall of Larned. While in the Air Force, Ed and his family were stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he received training in propeller engine repair and in Amarillo, Texas, where he received training in jet engine repair. His last station was the Air Training Command Base in Greenville, Mississippi. Ed attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the Air Force.
In 1957, Ed finished his military service and moved to Larned where he began working with his father-in-law and brother-in-law at Triple-H. In 1972, he began working at Pawnee Beef Builders until he retired in 1994. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion, both in Larned. It still exists. During his retirement, he also worked for Morrill Hay. Ed spent his retirement years attending family reunions, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, and drinking coffee with his buddies.
On November 30, 1981, he married Ann Spacil Cook in Larned. She is still alive.
Other survivors include two sons, Johnny and his wife Jill, Garden City; and Jay Dee and his wife Whitney, Larned; four daughters, Brenda Haremza, Sheli Haremza, Jill Robinson, all of Larned; and Amy Beth Haremza, Wichita; one brother, Jim and his wife Shirley Haremza, Grand Junction, Colorado; one sister, Hulda Mae Gothorp, Curtis, Nebraska; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sheri, two sisters, Betty Williams and Juday Huelsmann, five brothers, Robert, Bernard, David, Raymond and Lester, a stepson, Shawn Cook, a great-niece and a great-nephew.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned. Rev. Warren Stecklein will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Larned Knight of Columbus Hall. Viewing is planned from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Burial will be with military honors in the Larned Cemetery.
