10 rooms that embody the aesthetic “very reserved, very mindful”

A powder room is generally understated. This powder room, designed by the firm Le Whit for designer Christina Wang, is VERY understated with its chic but understated palette of blush tones and tiled floor. It’s no surprise that this mindful look was inspired by Phoebe Philo’s shops for Céline.

We can’t get enough of this vibrant Los Angeles home designed by ELLE DECOR star Tiffany Howell for writer-director Mara Brock Akil. Very cute, very demure, or as Jools Lebron says, very “demure.”

So chic! Carly Cushnie’s goal for her first interior design project was to create a “clean, calm and relaxing space.” Very thoughtful of her. See those clean lines and subtle curves? Very understated. We’re impressed!

“With its soft tones and plenty of curves, this Manhattan apartment is the definition of elegance,” wrote our (very attentive) interior designer Bebe Howorth of this space designed by Husband Wife. It’s sweet, it has personality, but not too much—it’s very understated.

The ELEGANCE. It’s easy to go overboard with a walk-in closet, but this one – designed by French designer Pierre Gonalons – is very well thought out. It’s the perfect reminder to be very conservative when getting dressed (no cho cho out, of course).

Designer Anne McDonald was understated before understated was cool. This feminine and refreshingly chic master bedroom completely charmed us with its understated vibe. (Or should we say Dreamsecure?)
