On August 13, the United Way of West Alabama (UWWA) hosted the kickoff of its fundraising campaign at a luncheon at the Bryant Conference Center. The campaign goal was announced and currently stands at $4.65 million.

“Only by coming together as a community can we achieve this goal and ensure that every neighbor in need is supported,” said Jackie Wuska, UWWA President and CEO.

“The goal is high, but the need is high,” said campaign manager Brock Jones. “We all know someone who has benefited from United Way or one of its partner organizations.”

The event kicked off with live music from The Arc of Tuscaloosa’s Sounds of Joy and a special set by the Brock Jones Band with the Rockin’ ReUniters.

The event also featured a campaign video and a testimonial from the Family Counselling Service, where staff shared how UWWA had helped them overcome challenges.

“One day, you or your family may find yourself in need and hope that these resources are available to you – and you will be so grateful when they are. That’s how many in our nine-county area feel when life knocks them down – they are grateful that a United Way agency is there to help them get back on their feet,” Jones said.
