GILLETTE, Wyoming – The start of a new school year can put anyone in a spirit of learning, and the Rockpile Museum in Gillette is giving local geography fans the chance to test their knowledge in a new contest.

The Museum Challenge includes a list of 75 clues to the names of cities and towns in Wyoming, including some that may no longer exist.

According to a Facebook post announcing the contest, the current list adds additional clues to a list originally created by Bill Martin, a counselor at Laramie Junior High.

Clues range from obvious ones like “Razor City” to obscure ones like “The Sheriff Who Killed Billy the Kid” or “Joe Pickett’s Hometown” that require a little more knowledge of local history.

Participants have until midnight Thursday to submit their answers to be entered into a prize draw. Prize draw winners will receive a prize from the Rockpile Museum Store. Completed answer sheets can be handed in to the museum in person or sent via email.

Those who are truly stumped also have the option of sending a $2 donation to the Rockpile Museum Association to receive an answer key. Click here to access the clue list or learn more about sending a donation.
