Herley art exhibition at Norway Library

“With All Due Respects, Enough Already” by Peter Herley is the current art exhibition in the Reference Room of the Norway Memorial Library.

NORWAY — Visitors to the Norway Memorial Library can view an art exhibition in the reading room during September and October. “With All Due Respects, Enough Already” features mixed media paintings on canvas and wood by Peter Herley.

Peter has been part of the art scene since he was a child, both as an observer and a participant. Born and raised in New Jersey, he was exposed to art at a preschool age, learning to draw and finger paint. His father often took him to museum exhibitions in New York City. He was fascinated by Jackson Pollack’s work and wanted to be as good as him.

Peter now calls Norway, Maine home, but has lived in New York City, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine, and Eugene, Oregon. He attended Middlesex County College in Edison, New Jersey, and earned his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Rutgers University. His artwork has been published in Café Review, Portland Monthly, Casco Bay Weekly, Eugene Weekly, Sonar Map, Lane Transit District, Luna China, and Up and Now. He has shown his work worldwide for the past forty years, through mail art and regular exhibitions. From 1998 to 2014, he participated in many group exhibitions with the Eugene Springfield Art Project, group exhibitions with the New Zone Art Collective in Eugene, Oregon, and New Zone exhibitions in Astoria and Lebanon, Oregon. His most recent exhibitions have been in libraries, cafes, art centers, and storefronts in Bangor and Norway, Maine, and Eugene, Oregon.

This exhibit is on view whenever the library is open. An opening reception for artists is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The Norway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main Street in Norway.
