Analyst on Nebraska football team’s quarterback room: “Truly one of the best” (in the Big Ten)

The Big Ten Network is making its annual tour of the Big Ten and on Wednesday night the episode about the Nebraska football team aired.

What I like about the Big Ten Network is that the analysts are former coaches and players who have played in the league. They understand the game and that makes the analysis top notch.

That’s why it’s notable that Howard Griffith, a longtime analyst for the Big Ten Network, said the Nebraska football team’s quarterback room is “truly one of the best QB rooms I’ve seen on this tour.”

This tour features Big Ten teams, so it’s fair to say he believes the Nebraska football team has one of the best quarterback teams in the Big Ten Conference.

Nebraska Athletics

Oregon and Ohio State are two of the teams that could rank ahead of Nebraska, but Will Howard left Kansas State for a reason – he didn’t want to be a starter.

Same with Dillon Gabriel at Oregon. Oklahoma wanted to play another quarterback and that’s why Gabriel went. That’s not to say those guys aren’t good (they are). It’s just something to keep in mind and as far as pure talent goes, I’d take Raiola any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

So would their head coaches. Raiola and Will Howard aren’t even comparable when it comes to turning the ball over. Penn State and Washington have talented, experienced quarterbacks, as do USC.

Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles is talented. So is Drew Allar. But I’d bet Raiola will be drafted higher than any other quarterback currently in the Big Ten.

When you consider the starting experience of Heinrich Haarberg, another Elite 11 recruit in Daniel Kaelin, as well as Raiola and former NAIA star Jalyn Gramstad, it’s easy to see why Griffith came to that conclusion.

The quarterback roster is deep and talented and it all starts with Dylan Raiola.
