Ayan Mukerji’s birthday: How the Brahmastra director’s fresh cinematic vision makes it unique

It’s the 40th.th Birthday of Ayan Mukerji, the director who is loved and celebrated for his works. One cannot thank him enough for making us feel with Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. His third directorial venture was a science fiction film, Brahmastra: Part One. Although he is only three films old, there is something about this talented boy that makes us love his work.

Some may argue that he comes from a film family and that he has assisted master directors like Ashutosh Gowariker and Karan Johar (in Swades and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna). However, I think it is important to acknowledge his natural talent. It is not just about his connections; his remarkable skills shine through and cannot be ignored. The quality of his work goes beyond mere formal training on film sets.

We have seen his mastery in his three directorial works, in different ways. So here is a detailed look at why I think Ayan Mukerji and his works are extraordinarily great.

Identification and emotional element

One thing remained constant in Ayan Mukerji’s first two films, Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: the relatable elements. From vulnerable moments to the emotions his characters experience, their reactions to their surroundings contribute significantly to the films’ longevity. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Mukerji has a knack for seamlessly capturing what interests young viewers.

In Wake Up Sid, he stayed true to simplicity and told the story of a small-town girl who dreams of making it big in Mumbai, while in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, he celebrates love and friendship from a fresh perspective. Ayan’s cinema has undoubtedly carved a special place in our hearts.

A unique story treatment

It is quite interesting that Ayan Mukerji’s first two films were coming-of-age youth dramas. Despite this, the backdrop, treatment and overall mood of each film remain different. In fact, his third directorial, Brahmastra: Part One, marked a significant departure for him as he stepped out of his comfort zone to tackle something so challenging.

Moreover, the multi-talented filmmaker is now all set to foray into the world of hardcore action entertainment with the much-awaited ‘War 2’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR in the lead roles.

Open for feedback

It is quite rare to find a filmmaker who is so open and receptive to audience feedback. Ayan Mukerji was remarkably humble while accepting criticism from fans during the release of Brahmastra. He not only made an effort to understand their views but also promised to make changes in the upcoming installments.

“There has been feedback on things like dialogues that could have been better and some people are not convinced by certain aspects of the love story. We make films for our audience, so there is a 100 per cent desire to use this learning and improve for the future,” Ayan said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

These little things are what make fans feel valued and important. With all of this in mind, I can confidently say he is UNSTOPPABLE. Who would have imagined him directing an action franchise like War 2?

Well, as a fan of Ayan’s work, I couldn’t be happier and remain excited to see how he works his directorial magic in all his upcoming projects.

I wish him a happy birthday!!!
