The Green Bay Packers have some important decisions to make before the regular season begins. It’s that time of year to trim the roster down to 53 players, which is never an easy process.
There is a lot to consider. It is not so easy to select the best 53 players. The Packers have to weigh up which players they least likely which means they can sign them back to the training squad. Squad balance is also important to ensure they have enough replacements in every position.
Roster construction is a year-long process and does not end after the Packers finalize their initial 53-man roster. It is said initially for good reason. However, they have to work their way down from 90 players to 53. For some players, this means the end of their NFL career, while others will quickly find work on new teams.
