Black Arts Bash returns to Cheekwood this Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – From morning to night, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens honors Black artists with music, dance, spoken word, visual arts and more.

Guests can explore and experience the many forms of black traditions and musical expressions.

Black Arts Bash takes place on Saturday, August 17th from 9am – 9pm. Tickets are on sale now at cheekwood.org.

Black Opry artists take center stage and showcase their talent throughout the day through musical performances on the Arboretum Lawn stage.

The Black Opry is a home for black artists, fans and industry professionals working in country, Americana, blues, folk or roots music and focuses on promoting their work. The Botanical Hall hosts drum and dance performances as well as spoken word performances.

Other offerings include a community activity, hands-on activities for children, and a lounge featuring African-American owned liquor brands. Southern comfort food from local Black chefs will be available for purchase.

In addition, the Frist Learning Center will feature an art exhibition of emerging and established artists.

“Here’s a great story that proves that everyone has something to give, regardless of age OR personal challenges. Our Austin Pollack introduces us to Ms. Sylvia Mooney. At 80 years old, she is not sitting still. Instead, she is using her skills to create compassion for others… one stitch at a time. Her crochet work goes to nonprofits to help our homeless neighbors. You might be surprised to know that she manages to do all of this while battling a serious health issue. Bravo Sylvia!”
