Calvin Football unveils new locker room at the start of inaugural season

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – As they prepare for their first-ever fall camp, the Calvin football team unveiled their new locker room Tuesday afternoon.

The room, which can accommodate all 112 players, was built on campus last year after the school announced the addition of the sport. Head coach Trent Figg said it felt like Christmas.

“It’s really been 18 months, for Calvin it’s been 149 years. When you see our players come in and how they react, it’s like home to them. The locker room is really their sanctuary. They’re so excited and so grateful to be a part of it,” Figg said.

Almost the entire roster is made up of West Michigan talent. Chase Bradman is an Indiana Wesleyan graduate who played at South Christian during high school and has now returned to Grand Rapids for a final year of football.

“I knew that joining a new program would be new and exciting, but I never imagined it would be this good,” Bradman said.

Each player’s locker has his name and hometown listed above it. Inside are the classic white jerseys and matte brown helmets ready for this season. Whitehall resident Winton Napier said the locker room unveiling made everything seem real and he’s excited to be on the field.

“I’m so excited to finally start playing and play against someone other than my teammates. It’s incredible,” Napier said.

The Knights begin fall camp on Thursday morning and their first game is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th at 1 p.m. against Oberlin College.
