Detroit Lions waive former UNC football WR Antoine Green

Former North Carolina Tar Heels wide receiver Antoine Green competed for a spot at wide receiver in the Detroit Lions’ training camp this summer. Green was looking to secure the WR3 spot in Detroit’s offense and play a bigger role in the future.

But on Monday, days after he suffered a concussion, the Lions cut Green from the roster in a series of moves.

Detroit announced that Green was released while they signed quarterback Jake Fromm and linebacker Ty Summers. Green suffered a concussion in the preseason win over the New York Giants and was unlikely to play in the preseason.

There’s a chance Green can get through waivers or not sign with another team and potentially get a second chance in Detroit, but it’s disappointing to see his chances at a roster spot seemingly end there due to injury.

In his rookie season last year, Green caught one of two passes for two yards for the Lions. He was low in the rankings and struggled to get playing time for a team that made it to the NFC Championship Game.
