Another lesson on the topic of “main character” Internet

Another lesson on the topic of “main character” Internet

A milkshake ducking for eternity.

Main character syndrome

In two leaked photos, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance is apparently seen as a womanizer during his time at Yale Law School, further proof that being the main character on the internet is definitely a disastrous affair that does not discriminate against anyone.

The camera-quality photos by dispo@mattxiv via Xsable were posted on X (formerly Twitter) by influencer Matt Bernstein, better known by his username “mattxiv.” They show someone who is almost certainly Vance (born James Donald Bowman) wearing a long blonde wig, a black t-shirt with a long silver necklace, and a brown bohemian-style skirt, and can be seen in a series of pseudo-model poses.

Although incriminating photos of politicians and other public figures have become almost commonplace, these snapshots – which a spokesman for Vance did not deny showed the senator as he was leaving the Daily Beast – are particularly curious not only because they brought this information to the public, but because the Yale man in question built his support among Republicans by denigrating queers and transgender people.

Dangerous trajectory

As an art form, drag dates back to at least the 19th century, and—though it’s associated with modern LGBTQ culture—it doesn’t indicate anything other than a person’s gender or sexuality. In fact, dressing up as a drag queen was a somewhat problematic staple for cisgender male comedians until recently—until people of JD Vance’s political persuasion made it a staple of discussions about American morality.

Of course, we do not know the circumstances under which these photos were taken, which most likely show the new senator from Ohio, who has changed his name and his election program.

What we do know is – according to a former friend of Vance’s from Yale who was New York Times — Vance was reportedly so supportive of a transgender friend’s gender reassignment surgery that he brought him homemade baked goods during his recovery.

How someone who bakes treats for his friend’s boob job goes from calling transgender people “groomers” to calling them “groomers” seems like a matter of political expediency. But given the dangerous trajectory Vance has taken, it will likely serve as a lesson well beyond the usual standards about the dangers of hypocrisy (and avoiding milkshakes) that will benefit the rest of America, regardless of its political leanings.
