The United Way of the Flint Hills’ 2024-25 fundraising campaign begins this week.

United Way will host the kickoff of its annual campaign Thursday night at the Del 5ive Event Center at 802 Graham Street. This will be the first full campaign under the leadership of Executive Director Daphne Mertens, who joined the organization midway through the 2023-24 campaign.

She says she’s very excited about what’s in store for the next year and says one of the main focuses will be reaching younger populations who may not be as informed about United Way’s work.

The kickoff event begins at 5 p.m. and includes an hour of socializing with appetizers and beverages before campaign leaders discuss the campaign’s goals and objectives. Once again, Thursday’s kickoff event doubles as the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours event. Residents who would like to attend the kickoff event can register at either UWFH.org or Emporiakschamber.org.

If you have questions or would like more information, visit United Way’s website or social media channels. United Way supports over 20 community partner agencies in eight counties: Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson.

Last year, the campaign raised nearly $500,000.
